B&B Picaflor Tambo

The guest house is centrally located, within an easy walk of the Ollantaytambo ruins and central plaza. To reach it, you go through a cobblestone alley rather than along the main road, so expect a three-to-four-minute walk after getting out of your taxi. The rooms are basic but spotless and well maintained. Staff were very friendly and helped with our bags and with some hot water problems at the start. Breakfast was simple, with Peruvian bread, cheese, fruit, and coffee. Eggs would have been a nice addition.

Our last-minute one-night booking came after the Machu Picchu train crash disrupted our plans, and Qitiña (I may be misspelling her name, my apologies) made a difficult 24 hours much easier. She stayed up for us, then got us up early when our tour company had rebooked our train tickets and we’d missed their calls and messages. After they contacted the hotel, she made sure we got out on time, packed us breakfast to go, and walked us to the plaza to help us find a taxi to the station. When the train was delayed again and we came back a few hours later, she let us rest in the room until checkout, even though she’d already turned it over. Her hospitality was wonderful. The B&B itself was incredible, with very comfortable beds, a sparkling clean room, a fantastic location, and impeccable service. I’d highly recommend it in Ollantaytambo.

A nice guest house, but the way the price was handled didn’t feel fair. They confirmed USD55 before we arrived, then charged us using their own exchange rate of 4 SOL instead of the 3.6 rate we’d seen everywhere during our two weeks there. A new shower head would also be a good improvement.

The breakfast was simple, but it was the best we had in Peru, with lots of fresh food and orange juice that even my picky teens finished. The place was spotless, and everyone was so kind and personable. The front desk staff made themselves available for anything we needed: they arranged a taxi, got up early to pack breakfast for our hike, and wheeled our luggage over from the square. We loved the charming decor and our stay here.
