Hostal Chaska Wasi - Hostel

The dogs, atmosphere, and energy here were all amazing, and the location puts you right by everything. The host even had my laundry washed and folded while I was at macchu picchu. Such an incredible host, easily the best hostel I’ve stayed in. I can’t recommend it enough.

Her dog and cats really added to the stay. The owner was warm, informative, and very accommodating, and she arranged an excursion for me after my visit to Aguas Calientes. The rooms were good and felt well worth the price.

We arrived late without a booking, and Katty got us settled into a room without any fuss. After a long collectiva ride from Hidroelectrica through fog on mountain roads at 5,000 meters, her welcome was a real comfort. We’d come straight to Chaska Wasi after our self-guided Salkantay trek from Mollepata to Hidroelectrica, following my sister in law’s recommendation. We stayed two nights. The hostel sits between the local part of town and the tourist area. It’s close to everything, but far enough from the busy spots to feel peaceful. The room was great, too. Katty’s dog Winy, though I’m probably spelling that wrong, was friendly and took us to the market for quinoa macca, breakfast sandwiches, fresh juice, and coffee. Once we’d settled in, he headed off for the day. Katty was helpful and friendly, with good ideas for places to eat and ways to see the sacred valley ruins. I’d recommend Chaska Wasi and would stay again.

The beds have warm duvets, which kept things comfortable at night, and the bed itself was good. There are animals around, including a cat in the room and a dog in the common spaces. That didn’t bother me, though it may come down to personal preference. Cash was the only payment option. I’d stay again if I’m in ollantaytambo.
