The first impression was lovely: a man welcomed us with a smile and aromatic water, then carried my wife’s small bag to the room and switched on the AC and TV. I thanked him and asked him not to turn on the TV stick or open any channels. Once he realized I wasn’t going to tip, he slammed the door and didn’t look at me again during our stay. Such rude, inhospitable behavior right at the start. We also couldn’t open the windows because of the mosquitoes, and there were no mosquito nets.

Meals are served by the sunny pool, or close to it, and the staff were helpful and available while keeping to the background in a butler-like way. This was the best hotel we visited in Peru. It sits in the city center in a magnificent colonial building filled with artifacts from ancient eras, a peaceful oasis in a dusty, noisy city.

Right in the historic district, this hotel was great value for the location and price. I enjoyed trying the regional dishes at breakfast, which was delicious, and the staff were very nice. I’d recommend staying here when visiting Piura.

The breakfast was great, the rooms were nice, and it’s a very nice hotel. I took off a star because they call the fitness room a “gym,” but it doesn’t deserve that name. They should get more and better equipment, or stop advertising it as a gym.

The patio was a lovely place to sit and unwind, and Concierge Edson gave us especially good help. The front desk team were welcoming and helpful throughout, which made us feel at home. LP Los Portales Hotel Piura also has spacious rooms and exceptionally comfortable beds.
