You can check the waves right from your balcony, with a great ocean view. The hotel is small and less fancy than its neighbors, but very affordable and has the basics. Breakfast is included and served in the morning. The staff are friendly and know guests by name, which fits the small size. To reach the surf, take the stairway a little way down the street on the right, which leads down the cliff. Parking is close by in a dirt lot at the end of the street. If you’re driving, Google Maps sends you the wrong way down Arica. Cars can’t use that street, only pedestrians and bikes. Instead, turn a few streets earlier onto Tarapaca and follow it to the dirt area at the end. There’s a fence on your right where you can park. Hotel Sueños is the second building from the end, with tables and umbrellas outside. No A/C, but I didn’t need it during my March visit, when it was only in the 70s.

The host was so welcoming, and I loved the atmosphere and the best view in Chicama. I enjoyed my stay and got to surf the longest wave of my life.

Mornings were peaceful: we had complimentary breakfast and coffee while watching the waves from the top of the hill. The town had a relaxed, friendly feel, and we met travelers from all over who had come for the wave. It didn’t run as long as we’d expected, but it was still incredible. We rented boards and wetsuits from Percy in town, who had a solid selection and was helpful throughout our surfing. My boyfriend and I had an amazing stay at Hotel Sueños de Chicama. Giovana was really helpful with airport taxis and booking a boat for surfing, and Luza was so kind and supportive whenever we had questions. Luza also offers massage, reflexology, and aromatherapy at a very fair price. I highly recommend booking with her, especially after the inevitable shoulder burn from paddling all day.

Junior prepared breakfast and gave excellent, attentive service, taking care of the few things we needed during our weekend with family and friends. We had a great experience 👌.

There was a cockroach in the room, the hallways were dark, and some lights were burned out. The beds had multicolored blankets that hid any stains. We left before trying the food, but lost the money for one night because we’d booked through Booking and it was non-refundable.
