Weekdays are wonderfully quiet, while weekends get busier with children. It's a safe, peaceful town, and there's music on weekends, though everyone is asleep by 11 pm. We found this hotel through a well-known booking site after spending a few days in Tarapoto. They picked us up near the main square, at another hotel from the same chain. The setting is idyllic, right beside the Cumbaza River. There's a gate by the lodge that lets you go into the river whenever you like. You can also follow a path to the waterfall, crossing the river four times to reach it. We had a superior double room, which was very spacious, with a ceiling fan and curtains that moved in the breeze. There were mosquito nets but no windows, and it still felt completely private. Wi-Fi and hot water worked perfectly. There are bats in the ceilings, and they make a rather peculiar sound at night. You need to switch off the hotel's ambient lights to sleep, so ask where the switches are.

The river views and the pleasant weather make this a lovely spot to unwind. The food could use some improvement.
