The receptionist was really kind and did her best to help us. The family living there was also sweet and respectful, which makes this hard to write. Still, there were things we wish we’d known before booking. Our room was spacious, but it had been converted from an exercise room and had no curtains. The WiFi didn’t work in the room, and the mosquito net shown in the photos wasn’t there. There wasn’t much comfortable seating either. The kitchen had a few spots to sit, and there were four chairs outside it, but ants made one of them unusable. The hammock pictured online was missing, so it wasn’t a good place to relax outdoors. We also didn’t meet anyone who could explain things in English, such as tours. We’re sharing this so future guests know what to expect, and in the hope the hostel can improve.

The place was neat and clean, and the people working there were incredibly friendly and helpful. Yacumaman is a beautiful, peaceful spot to stay.

Mosquitoes drove us away from the property, which seemed deserted. From the start, nothing went smoothly. I booked through Booking.com a month ahead after reading the reviews, but nobody replied to our calls or messages there, and there was no sign at the entrance. At reception, we were told the cabin we’d reserved had defects, so they offered a hotel room instead. It was unfinished and hadn’t been cleaned. We’d said we were traveling with children, yet the room had stairs with no handrail, which felt unsafe and risked an accident. We made clear we couldn’t accept a different room from the one we’d paid for, then had to flee because of the mosquito plague. Even now, our calls to the number on the website go unanswered, though our message shows as read. The service and location were terrible. I don’t recommend this place.
