We spent five weeks here and couldn't have been happier with the island, the location, the property, and especially the host family. If you're after a $2000/night Four Seasons overwater bungalow on Bora Bora, this isn't that kind of stay. Huahine Vacances gives you an immersive Tahitian experience instead. Vaimiti welcomed us like family, and she runs a tight ship. The grounds are immaculate, beautifully landscaped, and the houses are very well cared for. The pictures don't do it justice. There's no air conditioning, but plenty of fans and usually a nice breeze, so we slept comfortably every night. The showers had great pressure and plenty of hot water. The kitchen is well equipped, and having a clothes washer was a bonus. An idyllic pasture with a small herd of cows is next door. Across the street there's a long, private dock with a covered Tiki hut where you can have coffee or cocktails and go swimming. The property is on a large farm with an active Vanilla plantation and all kinds of coconut and fruit trees. Vaimiti and her family are wonderful, and truly make you feel part of the family. We had an outboard skiff from the property for our whole stay and used it often for short and longer trips. I highly recommend renting one to explore the lagoon. There's good snorkeling about 15 minutes away by boat, plus a lovely swimming beach. If you'd rather not drive a boat yourself, several excursion companies in town can take you out. The neighborhood at Mahoe Bay is quiet and beautiful, and only a short drive from town. The on-site car rental is convenient, and you'll need a car to get around this beautiful island. Ours was stick shift. We sailed around the Marquesas, Tuamotus and Society Islands, and Huahine is our favorite by far. Huahine Vacances is a fantastic place to stay. It's not just the island, though, there's plenty to do nearby. Super U has a good selection of food, wine and spirits, roadside stands sell fresh produce and fish, and there are several very good restaurants. We especially liked Izzy’s for lunch and its great burgers, and Métis for the parrotfish ravioli. Huahine Yacht Club is a fun place for Friday happy hour drinks and sunsets. BOOK THIS NOW!!! You won't be disappointed!
