We stayed four nights in one of Maeva’s three bungalows. Maeva was polite and welcoming, and she suggested several service providers. But this place is really only for people who like camping and can handle mosquitoes. They were everywhere, day and night, and we had to spray ourselves with local OFF repellent. Thankfully, we had a mosquito net to sleep under. The bungalow is partly open to the garden, where we came across giant spiders and other pests. It was noisy too, with birds and rain. The toilet was mediocre, and the water was cold about 90% of the time. Laundry cost €14, which seemed very expensive when other places offered it for free.

The cabin is tucked into nature, with waves to fall asleep to and birds in the morning. It’s a lovely place to slow down and reconnect with nature. Maeva welcomes you with open arms, has a sunny personality, and offers helpful ideas for things to do. If you want a small traditional cabin and Polynesian hospitality, you’ll feel right at home at Maeva’s.

After a full day out, it was lovely to come back to the quiet bungalow and comfortable beds. The Fare is also well placed for exploring northern Moorea, with beaches nearby, including one of the island’s best-known ones. There’s plenty to do around there, from diving and swimming with rays and sharks to exploring the area or having fresh fish at a "gypsy caravan." Maëva greeted us with such warmth that we felt at home straight away. It isn’t a hotel, but the welcoming, responsive staff and the beautiful setting made it feel that way.
