The food was a highlight, especially the dinners. We received the chef's menu each morning and could ask for changes if something didn't appeal. He was easy to work with, and made us steak one night and chicken another. We also tried the lamb chops. Breakfast was the same each day, eggs, toast, and fruit, though you could choose how the eggs were cooked or get an omelet. The yogurt was amazing. We stayed in # 9 owb, which was cute and peaceful. Bring Nespresso pods if you drink a lot of coffee. There's no TV, and the Wi-Fi can be unreliable. Cocktails are on the drink menu; beer was 750 Pacific Francs per cup. We brought wine and champagne. From arrival to departure, it was an amazing stay. We had four nights, but I'd choose six if I could do it again. I'd love to return.

DO NOT BOOK. We reserved in November 2025 for March 14, 2026. A week before arrival, on March 7, we got an email saying they wouldn't honor the booking because of “construction.” They moved us to another property without any special compensation, at a rate that matched publicly available rates. When we called to ask about the change, the reservation office was closed for the day, and we couldn't speak with anyone until Monday.

The coral garden was beautiful, with colorful fish and plenty of lovely coral, and there were several ways to get into it. The grounds were very well cared for, and our Polynesian-style bungalow had charming furnishings and original details, with an intimate view of the garden and direct access to it. The food was delicious throughout, with a varied mix of French and Polynesian flavors. We spent three full days at Vahine Resort last September, at the start of our time in French Polynesia. Once we reached the motu, the fatigue from the long trip quickly faded. It's a lovely, quiet, secluded place for a peaceful stay. All the Staff gave us a warm welcome and worked to make the few guests feel relaxed and well looked after. We also explored Tahaa's landscape and visited local vanilla, rhum, and pearl farms on a guided tour kindly arranged by the Staff.

We had four nights at Vahine Island in July, staying in one of the three over-the-water bungalows. It was comfortable, and the hammock and chaise loungers on the deck were wonderful. Steps lead straight from the deck into clear, shallow water, around three feet deep. There was some coral and a few fish under the bungalows and along the dock, where we also spotted a couple of small stingrays and sharks. There’s just one restaurant, so choices are limited. Breakfast was reliably good, with eggs made to order, pancakes, and fresh fruit. We skipped lunch. Dinner was more mixed: you see the menu at breakfast and can ask for something else if it sounds seriously unappealing. When duck was on the menu, we asked to switch to chicken, but our order got mixed up with another couple’s and we ended up with beef. Most meals were good, though the menu had lots of sauces and nothing simple. The restaurant staff were amazing, warm and attentive. Some staff speak limited English. That’s not too surprising in FRENCH Polynesia, but it caused an issue during our snorkeling activity. The guide struggled to communicate with us, and since a French couple was also there, we felt mostly ignored. Activities are somewhat limited because the place is small. You can snorkel around the bungalows or in the coral garden, borrow a kayak, or visit the small library. The activities listed on the website are available, though some may need a few days' notice. There are no TVs in the bungalows, but there is WiFi. If you want a quiet place to do very little, I definitely recommend Vahine Island. It had just been bought by the Pearl Resorts group, so it's hard to say what might change.

Just magical, an extraordinary stay. The resort is remote, intimate with only 9 bungalows, and luxurious. Everyone made us feel special, from the welcome at the dock to the excursions and romantic dinners with delicious, expertly prepared food. The location was amazing. We'll be back.
