Cassowary Hotel

The restaurant food was passable and seemed a safer choice than some nearby places, though the menu was only reasonable, nothing memorable. The Cassowary Hotel is convenient and clean, with modern rooms that are the best we have found so far in Kiunga. We have stayed nowhere more comfortable there. It costs more than the cheapest options in town, so for us it works as a decent business hotel, comfortable but not memorable.

Really comfortable place to stay 👌

I don't often leave reviews, but this place impressed me, especially given its location. The staff were as good as any I've seen in PNG. The rooms were fantastic, modern, clean, and had everything needed without extras. Restaurant meals were outstanding, quick, fresh, and reasonably priced.

I understand that Kiunga, and Western Province more broadly, can be laid back. Still, this is Coral Sea Hotels, and the employer might consider improving staff skills in customer service and hospitality. There are a few things they could do better. Tell customers which meals are unavailable before handing over the menu, so we don't read through it only to find out later. When taking a drink order, ask whether we want it right away or with the meal. And when bringing a drink, please provide a straw, wrap it in a tissue, and hand it over gently. Don't slam it onto placemats that have already held plates for many other diners. Thank you.
