J&R Residence

We would return without hesitation. The resort was peaceful, well run, and felt safe and secure throughout our week. With about ten rooms, it has an exclusive feel without being pretentious, and when many guests head out on tours, the pool and beach stay quiet and relaxed. Beth and I stayed in the Penthouse Suite, where the elevated views across the beach and water were calming. A cold San Miguel on the balcony in the late afternoon became part of our daily routine. Beth’s family joined us in a separate shared room. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the resort was exceptionally well maintained. Food was consistently good with plenty of variety. Staff were warm, attentive, and well trained, and service was strong the whole time. The owners being on site clearly helps with the culture and day-to-day operation. I was cautious at first about a privately owned boutique resort, but it turned out to be professionally managed and genuinely welcoming. Some reviewers mention the unsealed road. It’s about 980 meters, not severe, and easy enough with sensible driving. The roughly three-minute drive is a small trade-off for what’s waiting at the end.

The road to the hotel is very rough. The apartment we had was spacious and clean, with two rooms and an amazing view. Daily cleaning is available if you ask, the pool is well maintained, and there were enough beds for all guests. The staff were very friendly, and the massages, which cost extra, were relaxing. The food was below average, and the prices were above average. The owners didn’t come across as very friendly or hospitable. When we arrived, there was no baby bed, even though we’d arranged one through Booking beforehand. They only had one cot, which had already been promised to somebody else. They could have told us when we booked. At first, the owners seemed uninterested and made it our problem, though they did manage to arrange a cot fairly quickly, which we appreciated. The charge was 1000PHP per night. We’d agreed in the messages to pay 1000PHP for the bed, but it hadn’t been made clear that this was per night. It felt excessive, though we were glad to have the cot.

The hospitality of the owners really made our time at J&R. They worked hard to make our stay as good as possible and helped sort out all our problems. The resort is by a beautiful beach, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the restaurant serves great food. The owner has a comfortable boat and can take you on a nice trip for snorkeling and turtle watching. Thank you!

Food was delicious, and the staff were friendly and accommodating, going out of their way to make guests feel at home. J&R Residence Beach Resort is tucked away in a remote part of Anda, Bohol, so it’s peaceful and a great place to relax. The road in is a bit bumpy, but we rode in their comfortable van, so the trip was smooth and nothing to worry about. Once we arrived and saw the surroundings, all the travel stress faded away. The warm welcome and attentive service started as soon as I got there. A lovely, relaxing escape from the city and a great place to enjoy nature. The slightly rough road is worth it for the comfort, service, and serenity. Highly recommended!
