Batad Highland Inn and Restaurant

We got a real taste of local life here, and learned a lot about Ifugao culture and history. The new accommodation is run by very hands-on owners. We enjoyed local rice, locally brewed coffee, and tea made from mountain leaves, along with the inlagim, Ifugao’s version of the pinikpikan, which was especially good. The drinking water comes from a nearby natural spring.

It felt like being at home while we stayed here. The owner and staff were so accommodating, and the food was delicious and freshly cooked. I really loved the place.

We came here for an authentic stay among the rice terraces, and Morris and his family looked after us wonderfully. Everyone was incredibly hospitable, the place was very clean, and the Filipino food was good. The view on the challenging hike down was also worth a star for me. I gave four stars overall: one each for the helpful, friendly staff, cleanliness, authenticity, and that view, then took one away because the room details didn’t match the listing and the difficult walk wasn’t mentioned. A few things to know before booking. Exploring the terraces is strenuous, wherever you stay, and life here is very simple. This is the Philippines, with Asian standards, so visitors should be ready for that. We booked this hotel because we didn’t want a dorm with shared bathrooms, and the description said every room had a private bathroom, which turned out not to be true. We also weren’t told about the walk until an email at 7 a.m. on arrival day said the hotel was 30 minutes away on foot. It took us almost an hour, and you need to be quite athletic to manage it. I wouldn’t recommend a terrace hike for people with foot or circulation problems, fear of heights, small children, or anyone wanting a more comfortable trip. For adventurous travelers who want to experience daily life and can do without the luxuries, I highly recommend the hotel and the family who runs it.
