We stayed May 1-3 after booking through Agoda for six people. For the price, it was a decent deal and we had fun, but there were some bumps along the way. We arrived early and waited, then paid ₱250 per hour for a 1 PM check-in instead of 2 PM. They also took a ₱1,000 security deposit. I had no issue with that, but neither Agoda nor their Facebook messages had mentioned it, so future guests should know. At check-in, the first woman at the lobby was kind, but hard to understand. She seemed unsure about our booking, couldn't tell my aunt how far the beach was, and kept saying “Cabana 1” without pointing it out. There were no signs, though she eventually walked us there. We laughed it off, figuring that might just be how she was. We were never given a room key. We only noticed when we went to the beach, and thankfully nothing went missing. At checkout, a second staff member asked for the key, and the first woman said she had it. So why hadn't she given it to us? At least none of our belongings were gone. They inspected the room at checkout and returned our deposit without a problem. The room itself was fine for the price: the air conditioning worked, the sheets and pillows were okay, and the Wi-Fi was reliable. We knew in advance there'd be no towels or toiletries. The tap water looked clear but smelled strongly of rust, so we couldn't brush our teeth with it and bought mineral water instead. We left the water in an orange container downstairs because we were on the second floor and my boyfriend was going to carry it up. Later it was gone. They'd sold it to the room next door! An older staff member apologized and offered us a blue container, which we accepted. The beach is about an 8-10 minute walk away. I actually liked the daily walk, and it was peaceful there, though the place isn't beachfront. We asked a third staff member about a tricycle into town, and she quoted ₱100 per person. That seemed pricey, so we laughed and looked for another one. It was still an enjoyable stay despite the hiccups. If you're after a chill, budget-friendly place with friends or family and don't expect hotel-level service, it's okay.
High ratings can be misleading. My husband and I booked a stay for April 8-9, 2024 through the official RedDoorz website, expecting a comfortable place. But the address pinned on Google Maps and Waze was completely wrong. We were already suspicious as we drove through the area: there were signs pointing to other accommodations, but nothing for RedDoorz or Dolce Cabanas Beach Resort, and we had no contact number to call. We reached San Felipe at about 8:20 PM and spent at least half an hour driving around. We asked three different locals and showed them pictures, but none knew RedDoorz or Dolce Cabanas. It was too late to keep looking, so we gave up and luckily found a room at Ruca Liwa as walk-in guests. The misleading directions made for a disappointing experience. I hope they correct the pinned address, add more directional signs, and list a number guests can reach. Double-check the location before booking.
The rooms were neat and clean, and the staff were friendly. A wonderful place.
