The staff were pleasant and helpful, and I can't say I've never stayed somewhere worse. Still, I wouldn't come back. There were a lot of roaches, and some seemed quite at home sharing my bed. The hotel even supplied a gecko to eat a few, which was one upside. Housekeeping didn't come until I'd asked for three days in a row. Then they wanted to charge me for dirty towels, though they wouldn't have been dirty if they'd been changed on time. I wasn't charged in the end. When I checked in, my Filipina girlfriend warned me not to go out alone at night. Cab drivers called the neighborhood a slum. I would have chosen another hotel, but it was Sinulog and rooms were hard to find. I had to extend my stay twice because the condo I was renting wasn't ready on schedule. Both times, I asked the front desk for a price and was quoted more than I'd initially booked for. I assumed it was the holiday rate, and one male staff member did call it that. Later, when I came down to pay, the nice woman at the desk charged me half of what he'd quoted. It felt like there might have been some scammery going on. Most of my problems were general ones, but that pricing issue was directly with the staff.

The rooms were really clean, and the staff were very accommodating. It's affordable and close enough to downtown to walk. We had a nice stay, with a few minor issues, but I'd still rate it a 10. Commendable.

Everything was nearby, which made for a great staycation. The room was clean, the closet was big and tidy, and there were plenty of outlets for charging gadgets. The water was clean, the bathroom had hot and cold showers, and the AC was quiet and cold. The TV had Netflix.

We found bugs in the bed, and the staff wouldn't move us because it was the last twin room. When I asked them at least to change the sheets, they laughed. It also took a while for them to give me the manager's information when I asked. We decided to leave, but they wouldn't refund us. They offered a nearby room without hot water, though it might have had the same infestation. My friend and I went to Alba Uno instead. When their lights went out, they upgraded us to a suite right away. That's the kind of response we had expected at this RedDoorz when something went wrong. I'm glad hospitality in the Philippines isn't terrible everywhere.
