Dos Marias Tourist Inn

We’d booked a hostel for our first night at the same price, but a room mix-up meant we had to find somewhere else. That’s how we landed at Dos Marias, and we were very happy with the three nights we booked. For two people, it was actually cheaper than the hostel a little farther down the road. The room seemed renovated or in new condition, with a king-size bed, clean sheets, AC, a terrace, and a shower with hot water. The boiler is under the bathroom sink. Everyone was super friendly, and Google Translate made it easy to communicate. There’s a supermarket downstairs selling snacks and scooter gasoline, and we didn’t have any noise problems. It’s central and walkable from the pier. I don’t understand some of these reviews that only tear places down with one star for being noisy, unclean, or unfriendly. If you travel on a budget and spend very little, don’t be a sourpuss. Keep it up, you’re doing great, and don’t let those complaints discourage you.

We booked through Agoda three days before check-in, but when we arrived, every room was occupied. There was no receptionist there, and the person we spoke to said they wouldn’t return until the next day. The only offer was a full refund. They didn’t even try to help us find somewhere else to stay on the island. They knew one room was being renovated but hadn’t updated availability on Agoda, so the room listed as available was actually under maintenance. This was extremely inconvenient and unprofessional. They don’t honor online bookings and still take walk-ins. Not recommended at all. GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE? WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE?!

The staff were so nice, and our room was big and very clean. Really good value for money, about a 10-minute walk from the beach and main area.

There’s no hot water at all right now, and the water flow has problems too. If you want a decent shower after a day of diving, don’t come here.
