Marco Polo Davao Hotel

The pool felt like a little paradise, and the restaurants served great food. Staff were courteous, and the place felt safe with security there around the clock. I didn't try the spa, but it looked lovely. The gym was clean and had enough equipment for me to keep up my workouts even while traveling. There's enough to enjoy here that you could spend day after day on the premises.

The room was neat and fairly modern, and the hotel itself looked clean and well cared for. What let the stay down for me was the included breakfast buffet. The dishes seemed short on flavor, salt, or sugar, and I couldn't find anything I wanted to rave about. I usually like buffets because there's normally at least one thing I'll enjoy, but not this time. Maybe we caught them on a bad day, I don't know. Check-in was also delayed. I expected more from the hotel, and for breakfast I'd be better off eating elsewhere.

The staff need more training in how to look after guests. At check-in, the receptionist had a sour expression and gave us a look that felt discriminating. Breakfast was a shock too: the food was cold and basic. If you're a Westerner hoping for a good breakfast, you may be better off finding a restaurant outside. I expected a lot from a five-star hotel, but I'm not going back.

We’ve stayed here three times now, and the customer service has been excellent all the way from the guards to the concierge and front desk. The entrance security is very tight, and they take guest safety seriously. Inside, though, the atmosphere is relaxed and cordial. Staff are accommodating, and the restaurants serve great food with friendly, capable service. The breakfast buffet is great too. There’s a very nice pool, spa, and gym on site. Highly recommended.
