La Plage Hotel

We only came by for a sunset drink and didn’t stay here. The view was awesome and the staff were friendly, but that was the worst margarita we’ve ever had. The cocktails are just bad. Stick with beer.

The room looked so lovely that we didn’t feel like leaving it. The friendly staff sorted out everything we needed, and the playful dogs at the restaurant were a big plus. Our van was picking us up at 7am, just as breakfast opened, so they packed breakfast for us to take along. Big thanks for arranging that! 😄

The room was spacious and clean, and it’s easy to find a tuk tuk at the top of the road for a trip into town. Still, you could probably find somewhere nicer nearby. We had trouble unlocking the door after locking it when we went out, and staff had to open the window, climb in and let us in from inside. Gaps around the windows let mosquitoes through, there’s no fridge, and the WiFi was awful, weak and constantly cutting out even in low season. The bar, restaurant and tours all felt overpriced. You can get tours much cheaper in town.

I was hesitant to book during high season, but this was the only beachfront hotel I found with good photos. I work in travel and hotels, so I was nervous, but the rooms were very clean and had a great feel. Outside the room there was filtered water, coffee, a Brazilian hammock and loungers. Inside, it felt like a little tropical villa, with lovely decor right by the beach. The hotel bar had a DJ playing great tunes over an amazing sunset. Great vibe all around, well done La Plage team!
