Southgate Inn

The food was really nice, and the hotel itself was clean and peaceful. The staff were friendly and helpful too. I stayed here a few months ago on vacation with my wife, kids, and mother. Its location worked well, with plenty to do nearby. I also booked the upstairs event room for my son's birthday and was happy with how everything went. Of all the places I've stayed around Kabankalan, this was my favorite. I'd recommend it to tourists wanting a few extra comforts that may be missing elsewhere.

I was there last Aug 1-2. The room lamp kept flickering, and even after we asked for it to be replaced, the problem remained. Still, I had a good stay. The food was good, the staff were very accommodating, and shops, restaurants, and other points of interest were easy to reach. It did feel a bit pricey.

The rooms were reasonably clean, but the breakfast deal was confusing. They should explain upfront that only 70 peso is covered and anything else costs extra. Nothing on the menu cost 70 peso. I paid 250 pesos for a one-egg omelette without coffee, and my friend had to add 120 for her breakfast. The doorman was lovely, though the kitchen and front desk staff came across as quite rude. If I'd known about the breakfast limit, I would have eaten nearby and supported a local food place instead.

We slept well, though the walls are so thin that noise carries. The shower pressure was very low, but manageable. It's also easy to get around Kabankalan from here by walking or trike, with banks, shipping nearby, and plenty of places to eat. It's an older hotel, so it has the issues you'd expect, but we found it comfortable and the staff seemed proud of their work. Breakfast, included in the room price, was reasonably good.
