KGI Mountainside Hotel

There’s a lovely view over the fields, and parking in the garage was easy. The hotel is clean and feels new, with very friendly staff who look after guests. When their restaurant isn’t open, they’ll even arrange food from somewhere else.

We traveled by public transport, taking a Jeepney from Banaue and then a bus from Lagawe bus station the next day. The hotel made a good overnight base for seeing the rice terraces without giving up a comfortable night’s sleep. Our room had a balcony, TV, and a lounge area with a table. The bed had an inner spring mattress, the air conditioning was quiet and effective, and breakfast was good.

The chickens were a real menace in the morning, and the price isn’t justified by the stay. The basement parking only fits smaller vehicles, and there’s no decent parking otherwise. Water ran out, apparently because the hotel isn’t connected to a water system. At 5 AM there was no way to flush the toilet, brush my teeth, or shower. I tried calling the front desk, but nobody answered. Wi-Fi didn’t reach our rooms, the door fob didn’t work, and the washroom door wouldn’t stay locked. I can’t recommend this hotel.

The place looks like a funeral home, and it wasn’t worth what we paid. Basement parking is very tight and only suits smaller vehicles. Wi-Fi barely reaches the rooms and is very slow. Worse, there was no water all night, still none at 7 AM. My mom and dad badly needed the washroom in the middle of the night, but couldn’t use it because there was no water. They have no water system.
