La Mirada Hotel

The manager was kind and did try to make things right, but if we hadn’t paid up front, we would have gone somewhere else. After we objected to the accommodation, he offered us a room at the hotel next door, Sotogrande. That room met a minimum hygiene standard, but it still had large carpet stains, some appliance cords with exposed wires, and old, rough furniture. The first room they gave us had many stains, broken furniture, and dirty sheets. They moved us to another floor. On the elevator, the doors opened on a floor different from both rooms, and there was an overwhelming smell of rot and decay. The new floor smelled like spoiled yogurt. The second room looked cleaner at first, but closer inspection turned up several bugs and another strange smell. The rooms were disgusting and the state of the hotel was unacceptable. We’ve stayed in much cheaper places that were far cleaner. If you’re used to Western standard hotels, expect to be let down and disgusted. Do not stay here!

It was good value for money, even though it was a bit older than the newer blocks going up. We had a brief stop before our morning flight, and it worked perfectly as a stopover. Very easy to deal with.

The place we stayed was fine, but we learned a few things about cleanliness, accessibility, and the accommodations, including the bugs. Be cautious with hotels that have low ratings: a place can look tidy without being disinfected. This isn’t somewhere we want to return to.

The area was nice, the place clean, and the people good. There’s no breakfast or restaurant in the building, but you can order in.
