There’s a good restaurant right beside the beach, and the sunset there makes up for a lot. The location itself is great, although it’s too bad the place seems past its best. The rooms are aging and nothing appears to be getting renovated. Renting a scooter was a good deal. We booked a driver for departure, but they forgot about us and we nearly missed our ferry.

The location is incredible, but the rest feels neglected. In my opinion, I’ve slept in nicer tents while camping. It looks like nothing has been maintained or changed since the place opened years ago. Water is available for purchase, but it’s expensive, and if you want anything beyond toast to eat, you really need a bike to go get it.

The receptionist was the bright spot for us. She was kind, cheerful, greeted us with a smile, and was always glad to answer questions. Our room was further up by reception rather than on the beachfront. It felt very dated and badly in need of care. Ants were constantly getting in. I know that can happen in a hot country, but we’ve stayed in plenty of warm places without this problem. The sheets, pillows, towels, other linen, shower curtain, and tablecloth all seemed old enough to need replacing. The toilet paper looked as if it had been wet and dried out, so we were glad we brought our own. At first glance the room looked clean, but a closer look showed it needed a more thorough cleaning and didn’t seem well maintained. I’d seen photos of this room from six years earlier, and it looked unchanged. There was a fan, but it barely cooled the room.

The hut was basic but clean, and the owners were very kind and accommodating. We had one of the best views so far and wished we could have stayed longer. Power cuts happen now and then, though that affects the whole island. I can’t wait to come back.

I felt completely let down by how the guests were treated. I come to Sequijor often to relax, but this trip was awful. I needed internet for work, and it only worked outside the house. I reported it and asked them to fix it, but an hour later nothing had happened. I asked again, said I’d be back in an hour, and when I returned the problem was still there. When I asked how I was supposed to work, they just told me to sit outside. A couple of hours later the connection stopped altogether because the router wasn’t connecting, and the service staff had left. If anything goes wrong, there’s nobody to help. I was stuck there until morning without internet or mobile service, and couldn’t even book another room that night. If a guest arrives late, there’s no regular water in the rooms, no food, and nowhere nearby to buy anything. They may seem friendly, but I don’t think they care about guests’ concerns. It feels like they just want the money.
