Matabungkay Beach Hotel

The soft sand was one of the best parts, much more comfortable to walk on than at other Batangas resorts we’ve tried. The pool, though, felt noticeably cold for our kids. We were two adults with a toddler and an infant. The service was attentive and the staff responded well to our needs, but it wasn’t busy when we visited, so I can’t say what it’s like at peak times. Our room was just okay, and they didn’t provide slippers or a dental kit. We had to ask for the dental kit. There was no breakfast buffet anymore when we went in February 2026. The food was okay for a resort, though fairly expensive. We liked the tocino, but I wouldn’t recommend the American breakfast. We also weren’t happy with the corkage fee.

It was quiet when we visited in late January, with no crowds, and the weather was beautiful. The remote location gives the place a reserved feel, which suits anyone looking for a bit of exclusivity. I also loved that it welcomes pets, so I’ll definitely come back. The staff were warm and kind, the restaurant food was pretty good, and the barista made delicious cocktails. There was always a lifeguard on duty.

Our stay at Hotel got off to a bad start at the front desk with Mikee. She was unwelcoming and gave us attitude about our four-room booking, and only mentioned breakfast. The rooms were clean, but had lots of mosquitoes and were missing things we expected, including a heater, toothbrush, blanket, and hairdryer. Mikee didn’t tell us these items had to be requested. When we later asked to extend, Andrea was nice to talk to and explained that we needed to request the missing blanket and toiletries. The beach was great, and the other staff were friendly. We also spent ₱15,000 on dinner at the restaurant, where we enjoyed the dinakdakan and the polite service. We ordered food again around 10 pm. But Mikee seemed condescending, and I felt she was judging us because we were dressed casually after coming from other resorts. When Mikee came back later, spoke with the manager, and tried to charge us an extra ₱1,500 per child, the treatment upset us. We were extending our stay and hadn’t complained, but her attitude ruined the day and made us want to cancel. I’m fine with paying more for amenities, but not with being judged. I told her, “You think we don’t have money?” After I showed her what we’d spent and the receipt, her mood changed. She should be tested incognito, maybe with someone dressed simply.

The food was fresh, the rooms were clean, and the staff were the best part of our stay. We’ve had some of the best service we’ve experienced at a beach resort or hotel, and we’ll surely come back soon.
