Our stay at Rold and Roub in Puerto Galera was disappointing. The TV in one of our rooms didn’t work, the shower heater was unreliable, and we got only one pillow each. There were no toiletries either. The breakfast called “complimentary” wasn’t very clear. They mentioned choices, but served whatever happened to be available in the kitchen. I wouldn’t recommend it if comfort matters to you. It might do if you only need somewhere to leave your bags.

The staff gave good service, the rooms were clean, and the air conditioning worked well. Those were the bright spots in an otherwise disappointing three-day family stay. The online photos had set a very different expectation, and both rooms we booked were in poor shape. In our Superior Double, several lights were out, the sink tap was fitted wrong, the shower looked ancient, and the safe didn’t work. There was a kettle but no teaspoons, tea, or coffee sachets. The water dispenser in the main building stayed empty the whole time, and seemed to be there just for show. The bedding was torn and the TV picture was too grainy to watch. The second room had a strong musty smell. Breakfast had no variety. We were given one bland piece of milkfish, half a fish, with no other choices. The property is near the beach, but it isn’t beachfront. It needs improvement, and we won’t be back.
I really appreciated how the staff made me feel welcome throughout my stay at Rold and Roub. ate Zenaida, Ma'am Mary Jane, and Jovy were all friendly and attentive, and the whole team went out of their way to keep me comfortable. The hotel was conveniently located for getting to popular attractions and transportation. My room was spotless, nicely decorated, and had comfortable furnishings and a bed. I also enjoyed the restaurant, with its varied menu and very good food, plus a breakfast buffet with options for different tastes. The fitness center was well kept, and the spa services were relaxing. The place exceeded my expectations. I’d recommend it to anyone wanting a modern, welcoming stay, and I hope to return next time I’m in the area.
The location was farther from White Beach than we expected, about a 10-15 minute walk from the inn, despite the claim that it was five minutes. You’d have to run to make that time. The room also had very poor cellphone reception and Wi-Fi. We chose the “barkada room” for our family of 12, but it was extremely narrow, with barely any space to change or organize our things. There was no room for a table or chairs, and even the gap between the bunk beds was tight. With kids in the group, it didn’t feel suitable for a large family. The upper bunks had no side rails, which felt dangerous because someone could easily fall. Lighting was poor too: one small, roughly 12-inch warm-white ceiling lamp wasn’t enough for such a large room. Some staff weren’t very approachable. The restaurant food was very expensive and not worth the price. We opted for the free breakfast instead of free kitchen use, but were given no choices and had to eat whatever they served. The portions and taste weren’t good. Their “good for 2 servings” food seemed enough for only one person, at a price for two. We didn’t get value for what we paid and won’t return to this homestay.
We had a really enjoyable stay at Rold and Roub. My boyfriend and I paid 4,990 PHP/pax for 3 days and 2 nights, including breakfast for 2pax plus an inland and island tour. The reception ates were great, and kuya Jojit, our tricycle driver, deserves a shout-out too. Our room was clean, with shampoo, towels, body wash, and tissues. The AC worked really well, the bed was king size, if I remember right, and we had a balcony with a table and chair. It’s not right on the beach, but the walk takes about 5-7 minutes. A couple of things could be fixed: the bedside lamp didn’t work properly, and the TV had no signal. The Wi-Fi was sometimes slow, though that was understandable and manageable on an island. A few hooks for hanging clothes would also be useful.
