Palau Hotel

The room was clean and comfortable, and the AC worked well. The front desk was the one thing that could use improvement. The woman did her job, but didn’t come across as very sympathetic. Maybe it was her attitude toward foreigners.

We had a pleasant stay in a spacious, bright deluxe room that was comfortable for three, with a good foam mattress. The staff were friendly and quick to help, and the hotel is within walking distance of Freedom Park. They also let us check in early. There were a few housekeeping and maintenance issues. We spotted cockroaches and asked to move from room 210 to 211, both deluxe rooms. While shifting the bed, we found small pieces of trash that hadn’t been cleaned up, so housekeeping may have missed some spots, especially underneath it. The towels and linens looked old and less white than expected. The bidet and bowl were rusty, and some basic items, including toothbrushes, weren’t provided. There are also some dated areas around the hotel. The room was still comfortable overall, and the warm staff helped make our stay pleasant. Pros: Spacious, bright room; comfortable mattress; room suitable for three; friendly, accommodating staff; close to Freedom Park; early check-in allowed. Cons: Old-looking towels and linens; dated areas; rusty bathroom fixtures; occasional cockroaches; no toothbrush.

The staff were great, the room was clean, the location was very good, and the restaurant in the lobby was amazing. I rate it five stars because it’s the best hotel in the San Carlos area. If that weren’t the case, I’d give it a 3.5 or 4. If you need a place to stay in San Carlos, this is it.

The breakfast had a great range of fresh options, and the room was spotless. Everyone on staff made us feel very welcome.
