Amber Homestay

We were offered free drinking water to refill our bottles and coffee, and breakfast could be cooked for us for a fee if we ordered it. There was no wifi during our stay, though I don't know whether they usually provide it. Watch out for insects too. Our room booking was for twin beds, but we were given a room with one bed and told no other room was available. We didn't agree, so they brought in a separate single bed. That left almost no space, and the door could barely open. The island also had frequent power cuts, and without a generator we spent a few hours outside because it was too hot to sleep.

The staff were friendly and easy to approach, and there was plenty of parking inside the property, so I didn't worry about my vehicle. It's also about 6-8 minutes from Paliton Beach and 7-10 minutes from Siquijor port. Rooms for two start at P850.00 and come with air conditioning, wifi, and a comfort room.

The toilet wouldn't flush, the wifi was very slow, and the pool was dirty. Guests also have to pay 100 pesos each to use it. On top of that, the power to my friends' room AC was turned off, so they couldn't sleep all night. The owner was rude and the customer service was poor. An older man stopped us as we entered the premises and raised his voice, telling us to close the gate when leaving, even though we always did. We were treated like we weren't guests or paying for the bad service. NOT RECOMMENDED!!

The owners are really friendly. There's no beach access, but getting around is convenient if you bring a car or motorcycle, and there's lots of parking. Pools are available, and some rooms have hot showers if you ask when you arrive. It's a good fit if you mainly need somewhere to sleep and bathe. Food isn't an issue either: walk outside and there's a small food stall and sari-sari shop. Hot and cold water are free.
