Garden Orchid Hotel

The pool looked more impressive in photos than it did in person, and felt smaller and less inviting than expected. The sauna was shut on Sunday and only open until 8 PM on other days, which didn’t fit what I’d expect from the hotel’s luxury branding. Breakfast was adequate, maybe better than nothing, but wasn’t a highlight. We booked Garden Orchid Hotel in Zamboanga as a couple and were given two single beds, which wasn’t what we expected for a romantic stay. The bed itself wasn’t comfortable for a good night’s sleep, and there were hairs in it that didn’t seem to be ours. In-room amenities were limited: when we asked for tea, we were offered only coffee. Tea bags cost 65 pesos, a lot for such a small convenience item. The hotel is marketed as luxurious and expensive, but to me it felt outdated and not worth the price. Some features didn’t match the photos or the premium impression it tries to give. For that cost, I expected more polished service, better rooms, and facilities that were fully functioning. If you want a luxury experience, compare room types and check recent guest photos for the current condition. Confirm spa and pool hours ahead, especially on weekends. If tea matters to you, budget for it separately or check whether complimentary drinks are included. Also ask to confirm your bed setup and that the bathroom is clean and well maintained.

The service was very good and accommodating. Rooms are cozy, relaxing, and spacious, though the TVs aren’t smart TVs and only have selected channels. Breakfast has limited choices and wasn’t that good. The hotel is near KCC Mall in Zamboanga and only a 5-minute walk from Zamboanga City Airport. The restaurant stays open until 9:00 PM, and room service is available 24 hours.

The dinner service at the lobby restaurant took almost 2 hours, and it was my birthday. We had to cancel two food orders because it was taking so long. Very disappointing, and I feel bad for the staff who get blamed for slow service when they’re understaffed. The pool is open to public walk-ins, which isn’t good; it gets too crowded and dirty. The place is VERY OUTDATED, from the old-looking room aircon to the TV and everything else. It really wasn’t worth the money I paid.

I have fond memories of this hotel from when I was a kid. My aunt and auntie chose it as the place to film their wedding, and I got to stay there temporarily during that special time. I remember watching them get ready and celebrate, swimming in the amazing pool, and exploring the hotel. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere welcoming, and the place felt elegant and comfortable. I’d recommend it for a temporary but meaningful stay, especially for weddings or other celebrations.
