Camping in a tent here wasn't that pleasant. The facilities worked, but they weren't very clean, and the site felt quite full.
The setting is great, but everything else was a mess. Organization was basically nonexistent: reception said dinner ran until 6:30 PM, while the cafeteria said 5:30 PM and had already cleared everything away. The rooms were clean, but old, with lots of broken things. There are a bar and cafe, but the cafe is constantly out of water. At least you can order cakes, waffles, and food, but no drinks. The bartender in the red T-shirt was very rude. I don't recommend this place. Don't come here.
If you're expecting five-star comfort at a seaside resort, you've picked the wrong sort of place. We were happy enough with our stay, though we booked spontaneously and hadn't thought it through very well. If you mainly want to relax and sleep in the warmer months, it could be just right for you. The sea access gets 5/5 from us: our route was 70 meters along a path between cottages, then 40 meters over concrete to the beach, with wheelchair access. The next descent was awkward, and the promenade, reportedly worth several million, had no wheelchair ramp, so we were lucky. Jantar Waterpark was also 5/5, included in the price, with helpful staff and plenty of seats. The water was much warmer, though not hot, despite the offer saying it was heated. Entertainment was 5/5 too, with lots of programs throughout the day for kids and adults. Food gets 3/5. Compared with neighboring Amber, there weren't the same delicacies, though routine matters, especially at dinner. Breakfast all week was a buffet of sausages, fried eggs, and scrambled eggs. They could have switched the sausages for frankfurters and offered boiled sausages for variety. Dinners had two or three budget-cafeteria dishes, different from breakfast: two soups to choose from for the week, one cream soup, plus mains such as fries, potatoes, and salads, but no roast chicken. Cleanliness was 4/5. Our cottage was well equipped, but the bathroom and shower plumbing felt like an outdoor country toilet, and the bad smell lasted our whole stay. Comfort was 4/5. The single beds were small, and our kids fell out. The sleeping area was okay, and our cottage had heaters, which helped a lot. Without them, it could have been 9 degrees Celsius at night and the rating would've been 1/5. The cottages are only provisionally insulated, and our one-year-old felt like he was straight out of a morgue. The heaters solved it, but not every cottage had them, which affects my final rating. Cottage access gets 3/5: you leave the car 300 meters away, and moving a family of five and its things is a job. Unloading at the gate from the Jantar side is risky because municipal guards may issue a ticket, although people angrily packing up drove right to the cottages in defiance of the rules. Service is 4/5. It might have been a 5, but the manager, supposedly named Agnieszka, didn't welcome us warmly. The rest of the staff were helpful and engaged. Payments get 1/5. We paid a 30% deposit and arrived Sunday afternoon. The manager said we had to pay the rest then or we wouldn't be checked in. I spent 15 minutes trying to pay by BLIK, but no payment went through. In my view, after taking a 30% deposit, they should allow payment on a business day instead of threatening to turn us away without refunding it. Dear manager, the law is clear about deposits, and you're wrong. Nearby food and drink outlets get 2/5. Jantar has a cash register, but its kebab shop and bar don't give receipts. When you ask, they turn up their noses and say it's a big hassle, "something for a TV show," then, "Nothing to report."
My daughter and I went on a rehabilitation retreat. The treatments at neighboring Jantar were okay, and so was the food, but the room itself wasn't in good condition. The bathroom was the biggest letdown: roughly a meter by a meter, with tiles coming loose, leaking taps, and a terrible smell. It looked like it probably hadn't been renovated in 50 years.
