Apartamenty Mesa Grill Restaurant Cafe

I expected to leave a top review, but after my fourth and last visit in a week, I can't. During our holiday we ate at Mesa three times and spent quite a lot. On two visits I had apple pie for dessert. The menu called it gluten-free, and the waiter confirmed that it was. At the end of the holiday, I tried to buy another slice for the journey home, and was told the pie wasn't gluten-free. They said it hadn't been gluten-free all week or all season. I have celiac disease, and eating gluten causes health problems for me. I spoke politely to the manager about the misleading label. He replied in an arrogant, bad-tempered way that I was just unlucky the waiter had got it wrong, and that finding good seasonal staff was difficult. He even said I could have checked the display case myself for a gluten-free flag. There was no apology at all. When the menu says a dish is gluten-free and staff confirm it, guests with celiac disease need to be able to rely on that. Labeling food this way is a serious mistake, and the way the manager handled it was unacceptable.

The dishes were excellent and nicely served on metal griddles with wooden bases. We had cod, my fish was Gladzica, and my brother had schabowy, a pork cutlet in a flour and egg coating. Each came with roasted potatoes and grilled vegetables, so there was no extra charge for sides. The house white was good value at 29 zloty for a 500 ml carafe, with decent acidity. We came hoping for a better meal after a very poor experience the night before, and my brother wanted a break from the fish we'd eaten all week. The beer list was a welcome change from the overly sweet beers elsewhere, with some nicely bitter Czech options. Holba Jasne was more bitter than Pilsner Urquell. The selection mixed familiar names like Kruschovice with beers I'd never tried. No IPAs, though. The owner described both the dishes and beer flavors really well, and the service was great. Best place we visited in Dzwirzyno. Just add some IPAs 😉

The mussels, pike, salmon and orechiette pasta with salmon were all decent, and came out tasty, filling and nicely presented. We left satisfied, though service was a bit hit and miss and there were waits. On our last visit the server disappeared, and part of our order never arrived until we stepped in.

A safe and happy place for people who can't eat gluten. They have a separate GF oven, trained staff and lots of choices. My son was thrilled, and even got a GF cake. More restaurants like this, please!
