Sleepy3city with Sea View

Apartment 13a was fine overall, especially for the attractive rental price, so I didn't feel a need to nitpick. I've stayed in other apartments in this high-rise and could compare, and there were a few minor flaws. The service was excellent and the place impeccably clean. The closet could use a shelf; since there wasn't other storage, some of my clothes had to stay in my suitcase.

The shower flooded the bathroom because the plumbing was poor, and the floor stayed ankle-deep in water. The bathroom light barely worked. The room felt run-down, with just a modest kitchenette, and I wouldn't call it an apartment or even a flat. The bed was awful: a thin, falling-apart mattress on top of an old worn one. The floor was filthy throughout, and I doubt either it or the bathroom had been cleaned before we arrived. The entrance door squeaked and the loose doorknob was all over the place, so my husband needed a screwdriver from the moment he came in. The hairdryer was unusable, dirty, and sticky with dust and gel. There was plenty more wrong, but I don't want to relive that disastrous stay.

For February, at least, the price was reasonable, and the location was excellent, with a view of the pier. It's a studio suited to moderate expectations. The owner communicated well and explained everything thoroughly.

We felt cheated and definitely won't stay at this hotel again. We'd booked an apartment, then were told that although rooms were available, the other facility was in quarantine. As compensation, they offered another "sea view apartment" in a different facility. One window faced a square with a lone tree, hemmed in by apartment blocks. On the other side, a neighbor could look straight into our living room. The balcony faced more apartment blocks and shops in pavilions across the street. Below was the roof of a "shop?" and a parking lot for three cars, but when we booked we couldn't use it because it was "occupied." The room standard was okay, but the kitchen seemed designed for short people, with a knee-high sink. The bathroom shower cabin had no showerhead, so showers were quick but hot, while every room was cold as a kennel. We slept in sweatpants.
