Downtown Krakow

The location was a big plus for me. It’s under a 10-minute walk from Kraków Główny and Galeria Krakowska, roughly 15-20 minutes from the Main Market Square, and about half an hour on foot to Wawel Castle or the Jewish Quarter. Trams are nearby, though Kraków is easy to explore on foot. The hotel sits on a quiet side street, so it feels calm despite being central. I had a positive stay at Hotel Downtown, especially for a budget option. The room was clean and comfortable, if a little smaller than I expected. There’s a wardrobe right by the entrance, which makes the space feel tighter. The bed was comfortable, but I’d have liked fluffier pillows. The carpet, radiators, and air conditioning that heats and cools helped keep the room warm in winter. There was also a kettle with tea and coffee. Wi-Fi worked reliably throughout. You can hear trains now and then because the hotel is close to the railway line south of Kraków Główny, but they weren’t very loud or disruptive. The TV didn’t seem to work, which was a minor annoyance. The bathroom was clean, though the shower temperature could be hard to set, shifting from cold to quite hot instead of staying comfortably warm. The staff interactions I had were friendly and polite, though I didn’t speak with them much. Breakfast is included as a buffet, but I didn’t wake up in time to try it, so I can’t say how good it is. This isn’t a luxury hotel, but it’s a decent budget choice with a comfortable bed and a quiet, convenient base near many of Kraków’s main sights. Fixing the TV and shower controls, and improving the pillows, would make it a strong 4-star budget option.

The service was fantastic. The receptionist even climbed partway onto the roof through a roof window to remove a rotten object left by earlier visitors, and did it without hesitation like a ninja. That’s 11/10 service if I could give it. The rooms have what you need for a nice stay, though nothing special, and the location is nearly perfect, right in the city center.

From the outside it looks drab, but don’t let that put you off, the inside is lovely. It’s a small, nice hotel close to the train station and old town. Breakfast is available onsite.

There’s nowhere for a group to hang out together, so when we come back, we each end up going to our own rooms. Otherwise the location is very good. We had an early excursion before breakfast, and they made us sandwiches to take along. It’s basic, but toward the higher end of that scale. The beds are super comfy, the pillows are blissful, and the rooms have plenty of useful furniture. My single room was very small, though it had enough surfaces and storage. The showers are powerful and easy to use.
