Great Polonia Krakow Old Town

This place was filthy and disgusting. There were moving bugs crawling in the bed, and I woke up covered in bites, itching all over. I’m worried the bugs got into my clothes and belongings, and that eggs may have been laid there. I may have to see a doctor, go to the pharmacy, and get rid of all my clothes. Staying here feels dangerous. The facilities were dirty too. Stay away!

For a short stay in a great city, this was a good choice and excellent value. The room was spacious and clean, the bathroom huge, the water piping hot, and the bed big and comfortable. The location is fantastic, close to the station, main square, cathedral, and other old town sights. We could help ourselves to tea or coffee in the dining room, and communication before we arrived was excellent. There were some letdowns: the lift was out of order, and the lightbulb we reported was never replaced during our four days. Most of the staff were efficient but short on smiles and charm, though one person we met was welcoming and friendly. The bigger issue was that WiFi only worked in a small ground-floor lobby, not in the room. That was disappointing, and had we known before booking, we might have chosen somewhere else. Fix the WiFi and give the staff some basic customer service training, and this could be a five-star stay.

Our original booking fell through and nobody let us in, but the team at Great Polonia made room for us at 1 am. With a child along, we were very grateful. The price was excellent and the service was exceptional. The next day, they let us leave our bags while we explored, and we could stay in the common area for an extra hour before heading off. Highly recommend!

We really wanted to like this place: the staff are friendly and the location is great. But the hotel gets stiflingly hot, even on cool days, especially on the upper floors, and it seems there’s no air circulation system. The room AC didn’t work. Opening the windows meant dealing with traffic and all-night parties, so it was hard to sleep. WiFi didn’t reach the second floor either. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend it.
