Hotel Kazimierz III

For a cheap, cheerful holiday, this basic but nice hotel worked well. The staff are lovely, the rooms are comfortable enough for a couple of days, and breakfast is adequate. I’m very happy here.

There’s plenty to do near the hotel, and the main square is only about a 15-minute walk away. The rooms and hotel are nothing special, but they do the job for a few days. Most staff were very friendly, especially the breakfast team. One night receptionist was less helpful: he huffed when I asked for extra sheets, then complained when I asked him to get our passports from the deposit box. He opened the wrong box, which was concerning. Still, not bad overall.

The hotel is a good walk from Krakow main square, and it’s a shame it’s named after a king of Poland. We booked through loveholidays expecting somewhere affordable and basic, but arriving felt like being greeted at a prison. There was no help, advice or guidance. The reception had only a little heater, and the whole hotel felt grey and depressing. Our fourth-floor room was drab, with damp coming through the ceiling, and the duvet didn’t fit the bed. There was no milk, tea or coffee, and no food or refreshments available. It felt a bit like a hostel, but worse. We moved somewhere closer to the old town, but the hotel refused a refund after we’d checked in for 30 minutes and then left.

The area is quiet, but bars, restaurants and local supermarkets are easy to reach. The rooms were lovely, breakfast was a very good continental one, and it was definitely worth the money.
