The room was huge, and the hot water worked. Beyond that, I had a bad stay. The street felt like a no-go area in the 1970s Bronx. Room 307 was at the very top of the building with no lift, so you need to be fit to get there. The hotel had an unpleasant stale, damp, fishy smell. A chair leg came off when I picked it up, and the sink taps spun around, so I needed both hands to turn on the water. The carpet was stained and sticky. The little kitchen fridge stayed warmer than the room even after I adjusted it. The TV got no signal through either the aerial or Wi-Fi dongle, and the bed was the most uncomfortable I’ve ever tried to sleep in at a hotel. If you’re not fit or haven’t roughed it before, I’d skip this one. I saw several guests arrive during the week and stand outside trying to book somewhere else.

I’d asked for a bathtub when booking, but was given a room with a shower instead. When I requested a different room, staff told me none were available. The room was quite cold, and the shower had no lighting or ventilation. I really don’t recommend it.

The staff were very nice and looked after us, and they let us check into one of the rooms early. The hotel is about 10-15 minutes from the square, with plenty of shops around for anything we needed. It was a nice place that did what we needed for sleeping and washing up.

My wife and I are honestly disappointed with the room standard, though maybe we’re used to something different. We can’t fault the desk service or the location. We’ve asked to see another room when one becomes available, assuming that will happen, and I’ll update this review accordingly.

The room was clean, but very small. Getting to it meant climbing three flights of stairs, which wasn’t ideal, and the hotel entrance looked quite run down. I expected food to be served there, but it wasn’t. The street was very dark too. I wouldn’t go back or recommend it.
