Willa Joker

The receptionist was nice, but that didn't make up for the problems. From somewhere, there was a low thumping noise until 1 a.m. We visited on a very warm September day, and with the air conditioning off, the room got stuffy if we closed the windows. I reported it at reception, but nothing changed. The first-floor kitchenette was tiny, and both the fridge and extractor fan were broken. Someone cooked a hot meal, and the smell spread to everyone. Villa Joker looks out over the backs of shops. Thankfully, our stay was only three nights.

My father ran the place when I visited many years ago, and I remembered having a great time. That's the main reason I came back, but I won't return again. The double room was cramped, with just a big bed, a small low table, a kettle, and two glasses. Dust covered the wardrobe and bathroom door, and there was dust everywhere. The shower was old and worn, with peeling paint, like one I had 20 years ago. Other places charge less, around 250 PLN for a double room.

The photo of the room is completely unrealistic, so I'm attaching pictures of what it's actually like. It was under 12 square meters, if I remember right, although the advert said over 20. A buzzing fridge stood right by the bed, and the odd double lamp above it had no way to adjust the light. The shower tray was dirty, the water pressure was poor, and there was no hot water in the shower. The tiny balcony had one chair and was connected to the next balcony, where unfortunately our neighbors smoked. Then, on our last day, the owner demanded an extra 200 PLN to extend our stay by three hours. That was the final straw.

November 2023. The location is convenient, though I expect it gets noisy in season. This is really a guesthouse inside a fairly large row house, and you have to climb quite a lot of stairs to get in. That could be difficult for older people or anyone carrying luggage. The room was small, with a separate bathroom. Heating worked, and the room had a wardrobe, little table, two chairs, kettle, small fridge, two glasses, and two teaspoons. There was one small kitchenette upstairs, stocked with pots and plates, but one two-burner cooker for a three-floor guesthouse with so many rooms is clearly not enough. At 254 zł for one night, it was expensive for this standard.
