We got stranded because of a bus problem and had to wait by the road for 1.5 hours. Worried I might arrive late, I messaged the owner, who told me to call when we got there. We arrived around 12:40am and asked for the key, but then he suddenly said he couldn't help and that we'd have to sleep somewhere else. We waited 40 minutes in the middle of the night, and in the end lost the accommodation we'd reserved. He called it a “no show,” even though we'd kept him informed and followed what he'd told us. Arriving in a new city and suddenly having nowhere to sleep was frightening. I didn't know what to do, and my trip is messed up. I really want a refund.

We arrived at 6:35 p.m., five minutes after the check-in time, after the host had said checking in at 8 p.m. wouldn't be a problem. Then he charged us 10 euros for late check-in. He forgot to mention that fee when we spoke on the phone at 6:30 p.m. Poor man.

It's hard to find, and there's only a one-hour check-in window. If you miss it, you may get a rushed check-in where the owner is rude and charges you.

The Booking offer fooled us. It had a 7.8 rating and emphasized that it was “reliable,” but said nothing about the door that wouldn't lock or the many negative Google reviews. The photos made the place look modest but decent, with nothing bad to suggest what it was really like. In reality, it was a nightmare, like one of the worst slums. Booking also listed several check-in times, including an earlier arrival before 9:30 PM for an extra fee, supposedly at 6 PM. Before we realized we definitely wouldn't stay, we only wanted to arrange an early arrival and leave our car with the owner. On the phone he insulted us, shouted that we couldn't read, talked over us, and wouldn't let us speak. He refused to return even part of what we'd paid. Shocking. The comments confirmed our suspicion that going there was a terrible idea. Booking.com should refund us for hiding all this and giving the impression early check-in was available. It's unbelievable places like this still exist.
