Las

It's a beautiful place, and the service was nice, though there wasn't much English understanding. The rooms were okay, but the beds really weren't good. They need some kind of service for sandwiches or snacks, especially at Christmas. I'm sad to say my stomach couldn't handle the Polish Christmas food and cakes, and everything was closed with no store nearby.

The staff were quite friendly, service was fast, and breakfast was good. The hotel is quiet and close to the mountain, with a handy location for some hiking routes. The parking lot was well lit, and we always found a space near reception. Our mattress had a few dents and was uncomfortable. We had a view of a pond and part of the mountain, which would have been idyllic if the pond had been clean instead of having trash, including beer cans. We paid with my card in EUR, but nobody asked whether we wanted to pay in euros or local currency. The hotel's bank handled the conversion at a terrible rate and added a foreign currency tax, making the final cost about 10% more than the reservation. If staff had warned us, we would have used an ATM and paid cash. The saunas could use a refresh, and one was out of order. The restaurant only offered daily 3-4 course menus, which didn't really work when traveling with small kids, so we had to drive out for lunch every day.

We loved our room and the winter scenery, with snow, fireworks and two small nearby towns making it a real New Year vacation. The room looked great, though it was smaller in person than the pictures suggested. One bad experience at Hotel Las soured things. They ran a lottery for guests, and we had ticket 99, but couldn't tell if it said 99 or 66. They took our ticket and gave us another, so we didn't win the prize. Later, a woman who worked there told us they have lots of older guests, 95% from Germany, and since we were young and from Sweden, they preferred to give the prize to one of them because they were more likely to return. So yes, Hotel Las is a beautiful retirement home... I mean, hotel.

The swimming pool and sauna were nice, but the rest made for an average stay. The room was clean, though old and dated, and didn't feel like good value for money. Breakfast wasn't great, with more Polish options than an English breakfast. Not bad, not great either.
