City Park Hotel & Residence

The first of my two stays was great. The second was a huge letdown, and nowhere near a 5-star experience after I’d been looking forward to coming back. The room door was broken and took a struggle to open or close whenever we went out. The second room also felt far below the quality of the first, the tap had no cold water, and customer service was mediocre when anyone was available. I’ve had better service at roadside hotels.

We did eventually get moved to another room, but only after a lot of back and forth, and the way reception dealt with it left me with a poor impression of the hotel. Our first room was right over a pub with extremely loud music and very flexible closing hours. When we asked for help, we were basically told that since we hadn’t requested a quiet room when booking, we shouldn’t expect to sleep or relax there. From my experience, it felt as if Scandinavian guests often get the worst rooms because they’re assumed to complain less. So stand your ground and don’t give up. They may say there are no other rooms, or that you’re not entitled to sleep at night, but better rooms seem to turn up if you keep pushing.

The pool and sauna were super clean and peaceful, and there are plenty of facilities around the hotel too. We stayed overnight in a spotless, tidy room that was spacious, quiet, and had a cozy, homelike feel. The reception staff were kind and welcoming. I’d highly recommend this hotel when visiting Poznan.

They charged me $4,000 for water damage caused by an overflowing bathtub that was broken on their end. The actual damage was probably no more than about $400. They barely spent three minutes looking at it, then I only found out days later at checkout. I’ve dealt with less dishonest service in Cameroon, Benin, Niger, Nigeria, Togo, Uganda, and Rwanda, and in France, England, Germany, Japan, Canada, and across the US. Even cheap Motel 6 and Super 8 never pulled a deliberately dishonest move like this on me. Unbelievable corruption. Stay away from this whole complex.
