Hostel Awangarda

A practical place if you’re not looking for the comforts of a hotel. We split a room between eight people, with one shower, two toilets and a small kitchen area. The bunk beds had metal frames that creaked a bit, but they didn’t keep me awake. It’s not the nicest place to spend a few nights, though it was quiet at night with no major disturbances. That could vary depending on the room you book.

The hostel is very close to the tourist area, and the man at reception was friendly. We paid just 35 zloty per person for a night in an eight-person dorm, which is an excellent price.

DO NOT STAY HERE. If you’ve booked, cancel it. As I was leaving, I spotted my power bank on the couch and wondered how it had got there, since I’d put it in my bag. I asked the Polish guy who’d been sitting there the night before, but he’d forgotten how to speak English. I checked my wallet and passport and left, then realized some coins from my backpack and my sunglasses were missing. That makes me think some Polish guests staying at the hostel stole them, and the staff let them stay. There were other things too. One person was screaming for no reason, people walked around in just their underwear, and I saw someone naked in the bathroom. The bedsheets were really dirty. Worst hostel I’ve ever stayed in, including some places in Africa.

Avoid this place if you can. I had to cancel the whole booking because the receptionist was incredibly rude. It was a tragedy and a disaster. I think the hostel should be destroyed and the staff imprisoned for crimes against tourists.
