Pensjonat pod Kasztanem

We’d booked well ahead so we’d have somewhere guaranteed to stay, and finding another place at short notice would’ve been really difficult. But this was a disaster. The sheets were clean, yet the rooms themselves were dirty, and the bathrooms looked like nobody had cleaned them after the last guests. The toilets stank and were covered in filth. Even the towels smelled of cigarettes. Within half an hour, the kids spotted bugs, which turned out to be bedbugs. The kitchen was also supposed to have basic necessities, but that wasn’t the case. I’ve rented places many times, and we’ve never had an experience like this.

It can do if there’s nothing better available, and the cleanliness was impeccable. Guests can park underneath the hotel. But the walls are terribly thin, so you can hear everything, and the place closes fairly early. If you get back late, you have to call the receptionist, who works during the day, to let you in. The conditions are acceptable when there are no other options, provided the neighbors keep their noise down and don’t leave dogs in their rooms. With nowhere else to stay, it might as well be a five-star hotel.

It’s in a quiet area on the edge of the city, with good public transport into the center. The price was very reasonable for Poznań during the Poznań Trade Fair. There’s a kitchen, bathrooms in the rooms, fresh towels and linens, and TVs. The place is a bit run-down, with mold in some spots, but the service was okay.

The rooms are tolerable, and the price, including lunch and breakfast, should please any socialist heart. It’s within walking distance of the Kommerz company, if that matters to you, though it’s a little way from the city. The nearest shop closes at 7:00, and reaching the next one means trudging a couple of kilometers along a rough road while dodging cars and wild boars. Very communist prices, too.
