Breakfast was a bright spot: it was tasty, there was a good variety, and I liked being able to press fresh apple or carrot juice myself. The room and furniture were visibly worn, though everything was clean. The phone didn't work, and the fridge wasn't plugged in. The old-fashioned feel has gone a bit too far into simply feeling old. For the price, I was disappointed, and in my opinion the 4.6 Google rating raises expectations the hotel doesn't meet. This didn't feel like a place for a romantic escape. It seems better suited to families wanting convenience and things for kids. Children ran around the lounge, and there were playrooms clearly meant to keep them busy. The decor is aristocratic, almost imperial, like somewhere you might rehearse ballet rather than unwind after a long week. That style may suit some people, but it wasn't for me.

The place is peaceful, and the spa itself is really good, with a lot of aqua treatments and options. We stayed for two nights as part of a long weekend package. On paper it all looked fine, but the experience was disappointing in several ways. The rooms were okay, but need work: the intercom didn't work, toiletries were limited to soap, and the in-room coffee maker had no proper tea or coffee options. The paid massages were nice, and the saunas were great, but the paid salt cave felt like a clear eyewash. Dinner choices were very limited, especially for the outdoor grill, and half the items on the à la carte menu weren't available. At the restaurant bar, most cocktails felt like mocktails or virgin drinks. The kids' outdoor movie was shown in bright sunlight with a projector, so it wasn't visible because of the glare. I'm not saying it's a bad place. It's nice for a family getaway, but bring plenty of your own things, including snacks, especially with kids. There are no snack bars or shops nearby.

As always, everything is up to a high standard. My one suggestion is to change the dining room decor. It doesn't feel cozy anymore, and it no longer fits the rest of the hotel.

We came as a group for a spa break, spent most of our time there, and had treatments that we all enjoyed. The spa had decent facilities. The hotel itself was nice enough, with comfortable, clean rooms and well kept grounds. Dinner was pretty rubbish. We expected a buffet, but the first night was a set menu that was only average, especially the cold chicken nugget salad starter. There was a buffet on the second night, but it was limited and much of the food had dried out on the hot plates. Breakfast buffet was decent, at least. We also had a loud party on our first night, and the noise went on until 5 am.
