The flat is spacious and actually quite nice inside, and there's a parking space. It's also around a 10-minute walk to the beach and 10-15 minutes to the city center, with a small shop in the adjoining building for fresh rolls and other bits. But the old, worn-out building and entrance were alarming when we arrived, and there's a winding spiral staircase up to the flat. The street, 3 Maja, is very busy with both cars and pedestrians, and it was noisy all night. Thin windows and white blinds let in sound and light, so sleeping was hard. The old mattress had springs sticking out and gave me stabbing back pain. If you make it to 5 a.m., the garbage truck empties bins right outside the bedroom window. The shower also brings a sewage smell from the pipes each morning. The sofa is only a sofa, and its fold-out bed seems completely worn out, maybe it worked 15 years ago. Parking can be awkward too. If neighbours or their friends block you in, getting in and out takes a seven-point turn. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone, especially a family, unless you're a family of homeless bums, in which case it's pure luxury 😄

The apartment itself is great and very clean, but all the problems around it are frustrating. The price is what saves it. There are two double beds, a well-equipped kitchen with a stove, oven, dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, dishes, cutlery, knives, spatulas and even a grater. The bathroom is large, with a shower and tub. There are beach blankets and a screen, building blocks for a small child, and you can rent a tub and highchair for a fee. The biggest issue is that there's no second set of keys, and the intercom doesn't work. If one couple takes the keys to the beach while the other stays with the baby, the person at home can't even go to the shop for milk without someone coming down to open the stairwell door. It's a huge nuisance, especially in September rain when you're left outside with groceries. The staircase is dreadful, like an abandoned old tenement, and there's no room for a stroller downstairs, so you have to carry it up the winding, slippery wooden stairs every time. Although the apartment is clean, maintenance seems to be neglected. The hob is cracked in half, leaving two burners unusable, and trying them makes the whole place smell. The frame on the fridge door's lowest shelf is cracked too. If you don't notice and put beers there, I suspect the glass may eventually break, and you'd have to pay to repair or replace the fridge. Rainy, windy weather meant we had to use the heating so our child wouldn't catch a cold. The landlord couldn't be reached by phone after 6 p.m. and replied by email the next day, telling us to turn on the furnace. I only knew a bit about furnaces from the apartment I rent myself. The controller batteries were dead, its setting was wrong at 26 degrees Celsius, and the radiator pressure was almost 0 bar. Turning on the furnace in that state could have damaged the pump and left us with the repair bill. The radiators had air in them too, so the bathroom was extremely cold. The bathroom radiator tap was rusty and leaked when I tried to turn it, so don't touch it. The doors squeak and don't shut properly, including the bathroom and shower doors. Our baby had fallen asleep, but my wife couldn't wash up without the door going "ugh!" and waking the whole apartment, so we had to start getting the baby to sleep all over again. I had to act as the maintenance person or our stay would've been a disaster. The location is nice in that it's 500 meters from the sea as the crow flies, but the apartment is on a main road with heavy traffic even in September. I can't imagine sleeping with the windows open in summer.
