We went skiing with family and friends back in the 1980s.
Great.
The hosts were friendly, and the food was superb: delicious and generous portions. We could use the kitchen whenever we wanted, and parking was free. The rooms, though, are very basic, with a feel of communist-era Poland. There’s just one tiny cupboard, no wall shelves, and the wardrobe in the hall has almost no shelves. There aren’t hooks or hangers for wet jackets and ski pants, or rails to dry the constantly damp towels in the bathroom. Cleanliness was a 4. I’d come back to Szklarska Poręba for the food, but SKI ARENA SZRENICA treated skiers so badly that I choose friendlier resorts now.
Parking was included, there was a place to store skis, and the lifts were nearby. Those were the good points. The rest of my stay at Villa Alfa was a letdown, which is why I’m giving the conditions and accommodation 1/5. The rooms felt like cramped spaces from the communist era and had a distinct smell. The bathroom made us wait for hot water, and the rooms needed a proper vacuum and cleaning. Breakfast was part of what we had paid for, but it was repetitive and unremarkable, and we had to ask for something hot. One time during our week there, some sausages were bad. The kitchen was available, but it felt scary to use. The owners came across as odd and unfriendly, and could be rude. Being close to the lifts didn’t make up for that, especially when they didn’t seem to care about customers. At a higher price, expectations would be different. I regret choosing it after reading reviews that described a completely different experience.
The lodging is modest and inexpensive, and the food is good, with homemade dishes. It’s right by the forest for walks and ideally placed for skiing.
