Wilanowska Hostel

This ruined my birthday trip. We booked one night a month ahead and told them we’d arrive at 22.00, asking someone to meet us. They agreed for an extra fee. But when we got to the hostel, nobody was there. The owner answered the first call and hung up straight away. We tried reaching him for half an hour with no luck. At 22.40, in a city we didn’t know, we had to find somewhere else to sleep. I hope they at least give our money back. Do not even try this hostel. Save your money!

Hostel Wilanowska was a quiet place, away from busy roads, pubs, and clubs, and it was close to buses, trams, and the subway. I stayed nine nights in single room number 5. It was small but comfortable. I used ear plugs and an eye mask, which made it easy to sleep. There’s a kitchen with plenty of dishes and cooking things, one of the reasons I chose the hostel. Tea and coffee are free, and the Wi-Fi was good. Soap was available in the bathroom, toilet, and kitchen. The toilet was open to guests every day. There were free tissues and a personal dustbin in the room. The garden looks nice in the photos, with a BBQ, though I didn’t go out there. A very positive, lovely lady from Ukraine cleaned the rooms. Staff were helpful when I asked for things. The room had two beds but no table or chair, so they brought both and removed one bed as requested. When it got cold at night, they gave me extra bed linen. They also provided another towel when I asked, changed it for a clean one after five days, and lent me a laundry dryer, an iron, and an ironing board. There was a stove, oven, microwave, kettle, fridge, and freezer for guests. There were a few downsides. You can hear the neighbors through the wall, and the staff cleaning rooms can be loud if you’re sleeping until around 11am. There was no wardrobe or clothes hangers in my room, and no hooks in the bathroom for towels. It could get cold at night, so extra bed linen may be useful. The only bathroom on the 2nd floor served people from both the 2nd and 3rd floors, so mornings could be busy; I sometimes used the toilet by reception on the 1st floor instead. The shower pressure was weak, so showers took longer. The bath was leaking and unusable, and on my last day the shower also stopped working, leaving nobody able to shower or bathe that day. On that same last day, my body started itching, so fleas or bedbugs might have caused it.

The whole house has a pretty distinctive smell, and the location is just okay. The beds were really firm and uncomfortable, and the towels were small.

There’s a kitchen, and the place is quiet and accessible.
