Amnezja Hostel

The noise from the bars and clubs nearby was so bad we couldn't sleep or even think. We booked a double room, but ended up leaving two days early and weren't given a refund. I could understand that if we'd been warned how loud it gets, or if it had been described as a party hostel.

Being close to the old town and in a party area makes this a handy hostel for going out with friends. It's okay if you're not fussy, but we ran into some real problems. In December, with temperatures below 7 degrees, there was no hot water in the bathrooms, and there wasn't a hair dryer either. There were no lockers for valuables. Checkout was at 11, while our bus wasn't leaving until 18:30, so we asked to store our suitcases. The storage room was outside the hostel and had no real organization, though we made do. Some friends wanted to rest longer and tried sleeping on the common room sofas, but staff kept coming over whenever they closed their eyes and telling them not to sleep.

The facilities are good and the place is generally clean, but the reception service was awful. With only one person there, sometimes we waited 10-15 minutes. At night you have to ring the bell and wait for someone at reception to wake up and let you in. It's right beside bars and clubs, so expect noise.

If you're here to party, it's a good place. For a proper rest, definitely not. I arrived on Thursday and at first everything seemed clean and tidy, but then I found there were no napkins or paper to clean yourself in the toilet, and no towel in the bedroom. After about four hours of sleep, loud music woke me around 1 o'clock. I couldn't get back to sleep until after 4.
