Big City Hostel

The price is the one decent thing about this hostel. My room was dirty and impractical, the showers were broken, and the lockers were tiny. The reception felt cold, and it's a long way from public transport. If you're hoping to enjoy your time in Wrocław, I'd look elsewhere. Worst hostel I've stayed in.

The rooms have really old beds, and I wouldn't recommend staying here. The kitchen is poorly equipped, with just a few burnt pots. When I called reception about it, they laughed. I asked for a refund so I could switch hostels, but they replied rudely. If something goes wrong, apparently you can't get a refund.

I was only there a few hours, even though I'd booked two nights. I'm writing this as I leave, still angry. My phone died when I went out at night, and I couldn't get back in. The only instructions I saw were in Polish, so I thought I had to call reception to be let in. I was exhausted, and the street outside didn't feel safe, which made being locked out scary. For about ten minutes I shouted and banged on doors around the building, hoping someone would hear me. Eventually they opened, but were angry that my “crazy shouting” had woken everyone. They'd been watching me on camera the whole time, yet didn't open the door because I hadn't called on my phone. That felt ridiculous. I'm usually a calm, understanding guest, but this time I wasn't. Sure, I could have handled it better, but they could have too.

The hostel is okay for what it costs, though there's not much atmosphere. My room got hot, but it was the middle of summer, and the street outside can be noisy. It's a cheap hostel, so keep your expectations in line with the price.
