DUKES ApartHostel - Old Town

I refused to book again at the higher price after what felt like unfair, miserable treatment. I reserved an individual room on the 10th of April for two nights, from the 28th to the 30th of May. The reservation details said “Free cancellation until May 13th,” two weeks before arrival. Then, a little after that, on Saturday morning April 19th, I got an email saying the booking was cancelled because of an invalid credit card. That made no sense: the card is valid and had enough funds, and they tried to take money three weeks before the cancellation date. I first called the property and spoke to someone I believe was the receptionist, who blamed Booking.com. Booking.com, when I called, blamed the property. Both said there was nothing they could do about the cancelled booking, but offered to make a new reservation at the new price, which had doubled from what I’d agreed to. I DO NOT RECOMMEND BOOKING ANYTHING here if you have any self-respect.

A den for alcoholics. Dirty drunks wander around and bang on doors all night. Absolutely not suitable for children. A terrible place.

I found it at very short notice, and the staff were extremely courteous and accommodating. The room was basic but extremely clean. For a small budget, this is the best value I’ve found in the city. Recommended.

CAREFUL, they cancel bookings right before arrival! EDIT: They say they cancel unpaid bookings, but when asked, I provided two different valid credit cards. They cancelled anyway, much less than 24 hours later, in fact not even an hour after requesting a valid card. That request was just an excuse to cancel, perhaps to offer more rooms than they have or to raise the prices.
