The room, breakfast and location were all good: it was clean, breakfast tasted nice, and the centre was within a somewhat walkable distance. We were in room 114 and could hear music from the restaurant below during breakfast. It didn’t bother us much since we get up early, though I can see it being an issue for someone else. The staff were decent, but didn’t make us feel especially welcome, as if we were a bit of a burden. They were fine overall. The main disappointments were the spa and the promised mountain view. We chose this place for the spa, breakfast service and a room with mountain views, but our room faced the opposite direction and had no view. The spa was very dirty, the saunas barely worked, and their lights were broken, so we had to sit in the dark. The dry sauna stopped working on the last day of our stay.

The rooms were very comfortable and had been fully renovated. There was also a small, nice spa with a salt room, all set up to feel relaxing. Still, this is probably the worst review I’ve had to write, because the way the owners treat the staff seems to make them personally responsible for guests’ losses or missing items. During our spa visit, one of our towels disappeared. I suspect another guest or one of the kids simply took it by mistake, in good faith. When I told the front desk that I was bringing back one towel short, the staff member said I’d have to pay for it. She explained during our argument that her manager checks the inventory, including things like towels and TV remotes, and she has to pay if anything is missing. So she couldn’t let the towel go. At one point she even suggested I might be asking to steal it. I’m sure she didn’t really think that, but I don’t think it’s acceptable to say that to a guest, even if she did. I understood that, for her, either she paid for the towel or I did. I gave in and paid. I’m absolutely sure it hadn’t really gone missing and that they’ll likely find it eventually. The amount I most likely had to pay was pretty reasonable. Owners making staff personally liable for thefts leaves them unable to use their judgment or take the small risk that a towel hasn’t actually disappeared.

I gave this two stars because the photos make the hotel look great, but it was very disappointing. It’s far from everything, about a 35 minute walk to get anywhere, and the room was small with a tiny shower. It wasn’t worth what they charge. The cleaning was poor, with rubbish still under the beds, and the pillows were lumpy and really uncomfortable, like they’d been used for about 10 years. The bedding needs updating. Breakfast was terrible, with very few options. We only ate it once in seven days. The spa was only open from 5pm and had room for four people, so we hardly got to use it. When we did, the hot tub was filthy. I booked a massage there too, but the therapist didn’t speak English and didn’t understand when I said I had an Achilles injury. He pressed on it anyway when I told him it hurt. I felt worse afterwards and had to pay 240 for it, totally not worth the money. I definitely wouldn’t call this a four star hotel and wouldn’t recommend it.

The hotel was clean and pleasant, the service was good, and getting to the city centre was easy. The location was great. The one issue was the heating: it’s tied to the central system, so the room stayed cold until 4-5 pm, when the heat finally came on.

We used the hotel as a base for mountain trips over a weekend, staying two nights. The staff were very kind, and the hotel is away from the main busy road, so nights were quiet and we slept well. The private parking can be hard to manage when the hotel is nearly full, though, as it’s tough to find an open spot. We also didn’t get to use the private wellness area because other guests had reserved it for every day we were there. Our room was clean and cozy, and we really liked it. Depending on luck, you might get a mountain view, or a window looking onto the street or town. Breakfast was fine except for the hard rolls, which seemed maybe several days old.
