Tatra House Residence

We booked this apartment through Booking months ahead and paid in advance. Two weeks before we were due to arrive, the host said it was overbooked and offered another apartment elsewhere. We were disappointed, but eventually agreed. Then, after we'd confirmed, they told us they'd got the dates wrong, couldn't provide anything for our original dates, and cancelled the whole booking. This left us extremely disappointed. In the middle of winter season, apartments with the same specifications were going for two or three times as much. I don't understand how a booking made and paid for months earlier could simply be cancelled. Be careful with this host if you want peace of mind before your holiday. They handle bookings very dynamically and can leave you without accommodation. The worst part was that they sent us a link asking us to cancel the booking ourselves. If we did that, they wouldn't have to pay the difference between their accommodation and the replacement, since the cancellation would appear to be our request.

The Tatra House is close to the center and easy to reach on foot, though you can take a bus if you don't feel like walking. It's also a great base for skiers of any level. We spent a week there over Christmas and had a magical time celebrating Christmas the traditional Goral way. Everyone was nice, and the staff were especially friendly and helpful. Maybe having a Polish wife helped :) Our room was comfortable, if a little tight with all our winter clothes, boots, and luggage. The view of The Sleeping Knight, the famous mountain you can walk on, was great. We had half pension, with breakfast and dinner. Breakfast had an excellent choice and was delicious; dinner was a set meal of traditional, old-fashioned cooking. There was quite a lot of snow, including when we left, but the local council did a professional job keeping the roads clear and safe. For walks in the countryside, bring proper winter boots and clip-on ice grips, as the icy paths can get very slippery. Happy New Year 2023 to anyone reading!

The breakfast was stunning, with a huge choice from cereal for the kids to a fresh, tasty Polish breakfast. The place was clean and comfortable from the moment we arrived, and the staff were always eager to help. Two very happy people, highly recommend it.

We spent seven days at Tatra House Pensjonat over Christmas and loved it. I'd recommend it to anyone, whether travelling alone or with kids. The staff were lovely and helpful, especially Miss Agnieszka, Basia, Karolina, and all the others whose names I didn't catch. The food was the best, thanks to the excellent cook miss Marysia. I'll never forget the taste of Tatra Hause.
