Ceiba Country Inn

We had a lovely time unwinding here. The rooms were very clean, and the owners were really nice. There are a few friendly dogs around, too. From the upper patio, you can watch the sunrise over the valley with the ocean in the distance. It's close to El Yunque and the beaches. They have air conditioning, but an open window and the ceiling fan were enough for us.

The mattress felt very hard, which was the one thing I’d change. Otherwise, the room had a charming rustic feel and was nicely decorated. We arrived late and left early, so we didn't really get to interact with the staff. The birds and frogs were lovely to hear.

The owners and attendant were very nice, and the place is humble and quiet. But the website photos make it look about 90% better than it does in person. I stayed one day, and the pool photo was misleading: Ceiba Country Inn does have an outdoor pool, but it looks nothing like the one shown. There’s no TV, coffee maker, or microwave in the room, and since the hotel is off the beaten path with no nearby stores, you have to drive to get coffee or food. Coffee in the breakfast area isn't available until breakfast is set out at 7 a.m. on the dot. If you're after a quiet, humble place, it may be okay.

We booked two rooms for two nights online, but after waiting more than an hour, we left to find somewhere else. No one was there when we arrived. A note on the door said they'd be back at 6, but we couldn't tell if that meant morning or evening. There were dogs and cats in the office, so we figured someone still lived there, though the pool area looked sketchy. The pool was green, there was a broken plate and food left by the grill, and two broken-down cars were on the property. We checked the rooms for keys under the mats, and could see into one of ours. The beds were unmade. We tried both phone numbers, from the webpage and our reservation confirmation, but the line was out of service. It was 6:20 and nobody had shown up. The place looks like it used to be nice, but it hasn't been cared for. It looked dirty and unkempt. My daughter said it felt like a horror movie where people keep ignoring all the signs to get out.
