The mattress was comfortable, and the woman who checked us in was kind and friendly. She even let us check in very early. We loved the location and the restaurant at Mamacitas was great. But the photos of our second-floor room were misleading: the balcony looked nice, but faced an ugly rooftop right beside it, with noisy mechanical equipment. Except for the mattress, the furnishings were old and worn, the paint was peeling, and the room badly needed remodeling. I saw other rooms being cleaned that looked much nicer. I couldn't get hot water in the shower on the first day, though maybe I couldn't find the right setting on the faucet. When I asked the young woman at the front desk later, her answer was confusing and she seemed indifferent. I also asked for a hair dryer and was told they didn't have one. I've never stayed at a hotel without one before. It wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible either. For what I paid, I thought the room was kind of pricey.

The bar and grill on site, karaoke at night, and the waterway cutting through the island made for a picture-perfect setting. I really enjoyed it. Since it's the only place on the island to stay that isn't an Air B&B or a rental from individual owners, it's an experience you'll remember forever.

The restaurant was great, especially the steak and red snapper. It's also a great location, near the ferry and not far from Flamenco Beach.

After sitting through about 10 minutes of music that was much too loud to talk over, we left. The waitress said she'd turn it down, but it never happened.

I only stayed because I was stranded when the ferry canceled every trip that day because of Hurricane Erin. The A/C worked very well, but the place was filthy, the sheets were dirty, and there were several roaches, even on the bed. I couldn't sleep at all, and I will never stay there again.
